LuxembourgThe Aplec has been celebrated in the city of Luxemburg in the 1st and 2nd of August 2009. The acts has been celebrated in the Place d'Armes and in the Place Guillaume II. The Great Ducat of Luxemburg is one of the smallest sovereign states of Europe. Besides being an international financial centre, it has a very rich history that goes back more than a thousand years. Luxemburg, its capital, has around 83.000 people and, curiously, the native population is a minority. Around 60% are foreigners, originally from more than 143 different countries. Located in the centre of the country, it surprises for the contrast between the old town, with thousand year old fortifications, tortuous alleys and very picturesque houses, and the upper city, the true cosmopolitan centre, which is hanged in a rocky high plain. The capital has 110 bridges and viaducts that connect neighbourhoods, a feature that has entailed the nickname of "Village of bridges". It is also called the green heart of Europe. The interest places in the city include the cathedral of the Holly Mary of God of Luxemburg, the fortifications of the Middle Ages, the Ducat Great Palace, the place of arms, the City Hotel...
